In season 2012/13 he started his tenure as Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra Katowice, an orchestra of long tradition with outstanding conductors such as Leonard Bernstein, Kurt Masur and Wiltold Lutoslawski. Following a highly successful premiere season of this cooperation, the orchestra is looking forward to its moving to the new premises: In autumn 2014 Alexander Liebreich will conduct the opening concert of PNRSO in the new seat designed by the architect Tomasz Konior and acoustic designer Yasuhisa Toyota, together with the Bavarian Radio Choir and the pianist Krystian Zimerman.
Furthermore, Alexander Liebreich is artistic director and principal conductor of the Munich Chamber Orchestra (MKO), the position to which he was appointed in 2006. Since then the ensemble has been widely acclaimed not only at home, but also throughout Europe and overseas and received several awards for its unique sound and innovative programming. The first CD, resulting from this cooperation and featuring symphonies by Joseph Haydn and Isang Yun's chamber symphony, was released internationally to much critical acclaim by the label ECM in January 2008. After a Bach recording (the Deutsche Grammophon) another CD with Rossini's overtures (Sony Classical) was released in 2011. In 2014 Sony Classical is releasing his recording of Mozart's Requiem with the Bavarian Radio Choir (BR).
