It was love at first sight, recalls artistic director Francesco Piemontesi: “I met Plamena Mangova back in 2007, at the Queen Elizabeth Competition in Bruxelles, when her interpretation of Mozart’s Jeunehomme set the hall on fire. I have never heard anyone play that concert at such a high level and I can’t wait to listen to her in this masterpiece”. In Locarno, the Bulgarian pianist will be accompanied by the Sinfonieorchester of Basilea – led by acclaimed British director Ivor Bolton – in her interpretation of the K. 271 Concert, considered one of Mozart’s milestones. The program will end with Brahm’s vibrant Symphony No. 3, known in particular for its 3rd movement.
