Amedeo Modigliani, the great painter from Livorno, was known for his stylized aesthetics, mysterious colour tones and intentional deformation of figures, and this quartet that bears his name mimics these aspects almost to the letter. When it was founded in Paris in 2003, the quartet immediately demonstrated its intention to break away from the routine of many chamber orchestras, and instead focus on the spiritual essence of making music together. You have to experience it to believe it: listening to Beethoven's La Malinconia quartet paired with two absolute masterpieces by Schubert will serve as a reminder that, in art, it is only by trying to challenge conventions and by jumping in at the deep end that you can satisfy your boundless hunger for beauty.
