He is currently Music Director of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and Artistic Director of the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, as well as holding titles with the Residentie Orkest, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Gothenburg Symphony and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. In August 2014 he took up his latest position as Head of Conducting/Artistic Advisor of the Gstaad Conducting Academy.
Recent and future seasons include engagements with the major European Orchestras such as the Berliner Philharmoniker, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, as well as the major orchestras in the USA and throughout Asia. He also continues his regular relationships with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Gothenburg Symphony and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (for a number of recording and concert projects).
Neeme Järvi has recorded with Chandos for over thirty years and his most recent discs include Tchaikovsky’s Complete Ballets with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, symphonies and orchestral music by Swiss composer Joachim Raff and music by Saint-Saëns and Atterberg.
Whilst highlights of his extensive discography include critically acclaimed complete orchestral cycles by many of the great composers Järvi has also championed less widely known composers such as Wilhelm Stenhammar, Hugo Alfvén and Niels Gade and composers from his native Estonia including Rudolf Tobias and Arvo Pärt. Throughout his career he has also recorded with Deutsche Grammophon, BIS and EMI.
Neeme Järvi has been honoured with many international awards and accolades. Named as one of the ‘Estonians of the Century’, Neeme Järvi holds various awards from his native country including an honorary doctorate from the Music Academy of Estonia in Tallinn, and honorary doctorates from the Universities of Detroit’s Wayne State, Michigan, Aberdeen and the Royal Swedish Academy of Music. He has also received the Commander of the North Star Order from King Karl XVI Gustaf of Sweden.
