Festival Strings Lucerne

Since its founding in 1956, the Festival Strings Lucerne has toured extensively throughout the world.

The orchestra performs regularly in Europe's leading concert halls, including Vienna's Musikverein, Berlin's Philharmonie, Hamburg's Elbphilharmonie, Amsterdam's Concertgebouw and of course at home at the KKL Luzern and as an annual guest at the Lucerne Festival.

The orchestra collaborates with outstanding musical partners: established artists such as Hélène Grimaud, Khatia Buniatishvili, and Maria João Pires but also from the younger generation, including Daniil Trifonov, Jan Lisiecki, Francesco Piemontesi, Kian Soltani, Pablo Férrandez, Ray Chen, Daniel Lozakovich, and Bomsori. The Festival Strings Lucerne has a close partnership with Rudolf Buchbinder and Midori. Its repertoire spans the full range of music, from the Baroque era to the present day.

Festival Strings Lucerne was founded by Wolfgang Schneiderhan and Rudolf Baumgartner as a string ensemble of soloists with harpsichord. Since 2012, the violinist Daniel Dodds has been the orchestra's artistic director. With him as concertmaster, the orchestra is performing more and more symphonic repertoire in expanded formations.

Festival Strings Lucerne released an outstanding Beethoven album with Midori in 2020 (Warner Classics) and then in 2022, a critically acclaimed Mozart/Righini recording (Sony Classical) featuring Daniel Dodds. In March 2023, Sony Classical has released another album "Eastbound" with string orchestra works by Schumann, Dvoƙák and Schreker.
