The Orchestra della Svizzera italiana is, undoubtedly, one of the essential elements of the Settimane di Ascona. The evening’s protagonist is Switzerland’s most prominent opera singer, Regula Mühlemann, who is recognized and celebrated internationally. At her first performance in Ascona, she will bring her favorite repertoire: Mozart. Thomas Søndergård, replacing David Zinman, who has unfortunately had to cancel his participation in the concert, will accompany her in this repertoire, which requires surprising control and vocal virtuosity. An emotionally rich evening, which will continue with Schubert’s Sympthony No. 9, known as the “Great”. Composed in 1825 and performed for the first time in Leipzig, in 1839, with Mendelssohn directing the Gewandhaus, it was a concert that passed into the annals of history.
