A winner and prizewinner of several national and international competitions in his years as a student, Daniel Dodds is currently first concertmaster of the renowned chamber orchestra, the Festival Strings Lucerne, and leads this orchestra in concerts around the globe.
In 2008 he was personally invited by Claudio Abbado to join the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, the symphony orchestra with a star-studded cast of members that has been creating rave reviews throughout the classical music world and also appears as one of the Soloists of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra in chamber music events.
Daniel Dodds’s appearances as a soloist include: Brisbane Symphony, Folkwang Chamber Orchestra Essen, Philharmonic Orchestra Giessen, Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, Festival Strings Lucerne, Melbourne Symphony, Thüringer Symphony and Zagreb Philharmonic, with concerts as a soloist in South America, North America, Europe, Switzerland, Australia and Asia.
Daniel Dodds has performed an extensive range of chamber music works, from duo to nonett, from works of the early baroque period to world premieres of works by contemporary composers as well as crossover projects with jazz-, tango-, and far eastern elements.
His chamber music partners include Dimitri and Vovka Ashkenazy, Ramin Bahrami, Kolya Blacher, Wolfram Christ, Vivane Hagner, Daniel Hope, James Galway, Ivan Klansky, Jens Peter Mainz, Alois Posch, Rafael Rosenfeld, Herbert Schuch, Martin Stadtfeld, Danuscha Waskiewicz and See Siang Wong.
In 2012 Daniel Dodds will lead various projects of the Festival Strings from the position of concertmaster, including concerts in Zug, Solothurn, at the Lucerne Festival, in Ascona and at the Swiss Chamber Music Festival in Adelboden. As well as that there are concerts with the Soloists of the Festival Strings Lucerne, the Soloists of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, and appearances as guest concertmaster with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra in Novi Sad, Cologne and Aix en Provence.
After a successful tour to Japan and Korea as guest co-concertmaster of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Vladimir Ashkenazy in the season 2011/12, Daniel Dodds has been invited by Ashkenazy in 2013 to appear, this time as soloist with the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana. Daniel Dodds will also appear as soloist with the Festival Strings Lucerne in 2013, playing Bach’s double concerto with Daniel Hope in Olten and the Alten Oper Frankfurt. Daniel Dodds will lead the Festival Strings in concerts in Lucerne, as well as tours to France, South America, China and Japan. Further there is an invitation as guest co-concertmaster of the Australian World Orchestra under the direction of Zubin Mehta with concerts in Melbourne and Sydney.
